Recreation Therapy - Minor Program
The minor in recreation therapy offers a pathway to careers in healthcare, rehabilitation, community-based special recreation, mental healthcare, adventure education, social services, senior care, and youth development. The minor is comprised of 18 credit-hours in recreation therapy coursework covering foundations of the profession, program planning and evaluation, intervention techniques, assessment and documentation, diagnostic groups, and professional issues and management. The optional 12 credit-hour Advanced Field Experience is offered as an extension of the minor. The minor plus the Advanced Field Experience and (additional related coursework available through the general education curriculum) create a pathway for students to sit for the Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist exam, the nationally accepted credential for qualified providers of recreation therapy services.
